Boats
I bought my first boat when I was 16. I earned the money for it working at Blarney Island on Grass Lake. It is an Aluma Craft Model FD and I bought it from Haling's Resort in 1958. Here is a picture of it in front of the cottage.

When we were getting ready to retire and moved to Lake Holiday we would take friends out on the lake in the old Aluma Craft and decided that we looked like Haitain boat people so I planned on buying a new fishing boat. I went to Basa Marine in Bolingbrook and started looking at all the fishing boats and couldn't get over how much they went up in price. I saw this Mariah sitting in the showroom and said if the fishing boats are so expensive what's the price of that one and it was a little more than the fishing boats. I called my wife and asked her to come and look at the Mariah. She came and we decided we better buy this boat now while we were young enough to enjoy it so we did. We never even put it in the water to test drive it and it's turned out to be a darned good boat and we have made a lot of good memories in it. We use it on Lake Holiday, the Chain O Lakes, Lake Geneva and Delavan, the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake and several other places. We were all together in it when we decided to buy back the 409!
Our son Dave became an avid boater on the Illinois River. His first boat was a Villain II Chaparral.
After that he bought a Fountain. We helped him trailer it home.
